- Now Dad, what are the methods of risk reduction that we can do here on our community and it's importance on us related on this earthquake disaster?
- There are three commonly used methods of reducing the risks of this earthquake disaster to any elements that might be exposed.
- First is the effective recording and interpretation of ground motion that help to determine the location, strength and frequency of earthquakes and assists in providing alerts and warnings especially to high risk vulnerable areas on our community for preparation and emergency response.
- Second is the constructing seismic hazard maps, it shows the potential hazards on our area. It serves as basis for the disaster management information like on our locations for evacuation and evacuation routes.
- And lastly, developing resistant structures. Developing engineered structures can be achieved by following building codes on hazard maps or by appropriate methods of analysis. It is used as frame in making such houses for it provides great deal of security.
- But why we must know about the value of knowing this earthquakes hazards and risk reduction, Dad?
- Carrying out an assessment of the impact of single earthquake events(deterministic approach) is a useful tool for developing risk reduction measures. By knowing all about earthquake hazards and risk reduction, we are now prepared for it no matter what, and stay safe during one and what to do after it occurs on our community.
