- Now that my mistress has stopped teaching me, how will I ever learn how to read? My master surely won't hire me an educator. There must be some way... I know! I'll bargain with some of the neighbors! Asking for a lesson on how to read isn't too much right? First I'll need something to trade with them... Say, the master has plenty of bread to spare! Since food supply has been on the decline for a few years, those kids just might take me up on my offer.! Now how will I get out of here...
- That was easy! The master and his mistress decided to sleep early today. There should be some people out at this time. I just need to make sure I don't get spotted.
- Seems those paper boys are finishing their runs. Hopefully they have some papers left over.
- Hey there! I saw you guys ran short on food yesterday. Must be tough having to work long hours without any grub to eat. How about we make a trade? I'll give you some bread from my master if you give me all of those newspapers.
- That'd be greatly appreciated, but you're a slave. You aren't allowed to learn how to read are you?

- My mistress did teach me a little, but I want to learn more. LIteracy is such a vast topic, and I want to be one of the few of my kind to be able to experience it.
