  • Social wellness is one part of your total wellness. Social wellness is how well you interact with other people. Examples of good social interactions are having a conversation with your friend, spending quality time with your family, and having good interactions with your coworkers. As mentioned in M1 Lesson 2: Social Wellness, technology has decreased the amount of face-to-face interactions and may cause people to be insensitive to others. Despite this, you can improve your own social wellness by taking care of yourself, taking responsibility for yourself, and being a good listener. In a friendship, there are ways to maintain a healthy relationship. These include listening to your friend, respecting each other's differences, being honest, while being sensitive, and having a positive attitude. Another important relationship, is the one you have with your family. Family relationships should be built with respect and support for each other.
  • As stated in M1 Lesson 4: Mental/Emotional Wellness, "Mental wellness is best described as being comfortable with the people around you, your surroundings, and yourself. Emotional wellness refers to how you react to events that occur in your life." In your life, these two types of wellness will be disrupted by stress. Stress could be caused by several different situations, like being nervous about a school play. There are three stages of stress: the alarm stage, the resistance stage, and the exhaustion stage. To maintain your mental/emotional wellness, and in turn, your total wellness, you have to learn to manage your stress. Some methods of managing stress are telling yourself the stress will pass, to focus on what is most important, and to create a schedule. When dealing with stress, people may use defense mechanisms like denial or rationalization.
  • The last part of your total wellness is your physical wellness. Your physical wellness is how well you take care of yourself. This means exercising, eating healthy, and maintaining good hygiene. Although physical wellness was not focused on as much in the module, it's still a very important part of the wellness triangle. In the example above, the kids are exercising, part of physical wellness. This example could also contribute to social wellness, as team sports are known to have a social aspect. In conclusion, all aspects of your wellness are linked. It is important to maintain good wellness in all of these areas to maintain overall good health and a good life.
