- Gentrification is the converting of a lower-class neighborhood to one that is more middle-class or higher. This can improve housing and bring in more residents. This may have adverse effects however, such as driving out the lower-class residents by increasing rent charges.
- Greenbelt
- This park is so nice!
- Suburbs, or suburban areas, are residential areas located outside of city centers. This picture here represents that by showing the houses being similar and showing that the area houses people.
- Edge City
- A central business district, or CBD, is a place in the city considered the central point of business. This picture represents a CBD in the way there are tall city buildings as well as people conducting business on the daily.
- Tenement
- This place doesn't seem up to safety code.
- Greenbelts are belts of land maintained as parks, agriculture, or other open space to limit the volume of an urban area. This picture shows an example of a greenbelt in the sense that this is a belt of land preserved as a park.
- I'm glad they're preserving this park.
- An edge city is one that occupies space near a larger city, or a Central Business District. They typically act as a center for business, recreational, or commercial purposes. This city is shown as an edge city by implying the fact that it is on the edges of San Francisco, which is a CBD.
- This city sure is close to San Francisco
- No kidding! I could walk there if I wanted to.
- A tenement is a run-down or dilapidated apartment occupied typically by multiple families. The apartment barely meets safety standards, and is cheaper than normal apartments. This picture portrays a tenement by showing its lack of cleanliness and lowered functionality.
