- We bombarded the nucleus of the Uranium sample with neutrons.
- After correctly interpreting the confusing data by hypothesizing, I now know that the uranium nuclei had split to form lighter elements, such as barium and krypton, releasing neutrons and large amounts of energy.
- The Uranium Atom split into many fragments! Now, we just need to find out what the Uranium atom split into.
- "Different types of elements decay at different rates and release different types of radiation, plotting the decay of the uranium sample as a curve on a graph will reveal to us the elements or element present in the fragments"
- our experimental hypothesis was based on the assumption that an atom splits in the same way as a water droplet; we proved that the uranium atom had actually split into different, smaller elements. "Our model will provide an explanation for the release of more neutrons, which is the necessary prerequisite in the creation of a chain reaction and essential in many later nuclear applications." We shall name this new process "nuclear fission".
- I won the Noble Peace Prize for chemistry in 1944 for this discovery! which is why Fang should win a good grade for this project!
