- Montag has just shared with his wife, Mildred, that he has been hiding books in their house. Mildred is stressed over the fact that if they get caught that their house will be burned.
- He might come and burn our house and the 'family'. That's awful! Think of our investment. Why should I read? What for?

- Montag meets Faber for the first time.
- Number one, as I said: quality of information. Number two: leisure to digest it. Number three: the right to carry out actions based on the first two.
