- The residents of Maple Street are going about their daily business. Everything is peaceful and calm, and it is a regular day. Nobody is expecting anything out of the ordinary to happen on this serene day.
- Climax
- A beam of light passes overhead. All the electricity goes out, and nothing is working, not even the radio. The neighbors find out that nothing is working, not the stoves, the cars, the radios, or anything. A fourteen year old, Tommy, tells them all that their electricity is off because aliens shut it off, and somebody on Maple Street is working with the aliens. This adds to the general chaos of the situation, and although they pretend to take it lightly, the adults are nervous.#160;From#160; left to right:#160; Tommy, other neighbors, including Steve and Mrs. Brand.#160;
- Falling Action
- The residents start pointing out their neighbors' oddities, accusing them of being an alien. After Les Goodman's car starts up, the neighbors say that he is an alien, because his car is the only one that works. After more incidents similar to this happen, Maple Street is on an edge, with everybody nervous and fearful.#160;
- Resolution
- Charlie shoots Pete Van Horn. He claims that he was just trying to protect himself and his home, but his neighbors think he is alien, and shot Peter Van Horn because Peter had found out that Charlie was an alien. This is the point where the chaos gets so out of hand that it will not stop.#160;
- The residents of Maple Street now are accusing each other and suspecting everyone of being an alien. The confusion has dissolved into complete pandemonium, and nobody is reasonable anymore. Maple Street and it's citizens are no longer; instead, there are only mobs and accusations.
- Above Maple Street and the chaos, in the night sky, two aliens are talking about Maple Street. They observe that Maple Street is not unique. Any typical street will react in the same way as Maple Street, until all humans have destroyed themselves.#160;
