- This is one of the most important moments in Yanek´s life. It is the beginning of his series of unfortunate events. This starts his impressive journey of survival.
- ¨German soldiers filled the streets of Kraków.¨ Pg 7.
- This is an important moment in my book, because this is when Yanek loses his parents to the Nazis. Yanek had been out during nighttime to make bread, and on his way home he sees the Nazis escorting a crowd away. His parents were in that crowd.
- ¨Wait-there. In the middle of the crowd. I froze. Was that my mother and father? I stood on my toes, trying to see into the mass of people, but my angle had changed"(Pg.54)
- Yanek was starting to lose hope in this concentration camp, until he saw his uncle. Uncle Moshe was pretty much his only family left. Uncle Moshe gives him advice that he uses, in the next 9 concentration camps.
- ¨Uncle Moshe!¨ I called. ¨Uncle Moshe! Its me! Yanek!¨ Moshe looked up, not in excitement but in horror.¨ Pg 66.
- ¨Who called there? Who was that?¨ our kapo barked, bringing my group to a halt¨ Pg 66.
