- The Sixties Scoop:
- Expulsion:
- Forced removal of Indigenous communities off their land by European immigrants in the 16th century. For example, the Expulsion of the Beothuk in Newfoundland and Labrador.
- The Indian Act:
- The Indian Act attempted to take away the agency of Indigenous peoples and intended to Assimilate Indigenous peoples by getting rid of the tribal system.
- The Reserve System:
- Residential Schools:
- Truth and Reconciliation (TRC):
- An Institutionintended to Assimilate Indigenous children by stripping away their culture. A form of physical and cultural Genocide due to the many deaths of children in these facilities.
- Forced removal of Indigenous children from their families to be adopted by non-Indigenous families. The intention of this was to obliterate the Indigenous heritage through forced Assimilation.
- Another form of Expulsion. The Reserve system was intended to push Indigenous people off of European settlements onto plots of land called reservations.
- All of you need to move onto another plot of land.
- Launched in 2008, 94 calls to action for Canada to address and correct past wrongdoings towards Indigenous peoples. Recommendations for policy changes include the areas of education, justice, and culture
