- Samantha Lyme disease is over the whole world but, In the United States, Lyme disease is the most frequent vector-borne disease. Borrelia burgdorferi and, in rare cases, Borrelia mayonii are the bacteria that cause Lyme disease. Humans are affected after being bitten by infected blacklegged ticks.
