- If you are too pretty you have to wear a mask. their faces were masked, so that no one, seeing a free and graceful gesture or a pretty face, would feel like something the cat drug in.

- In the first sentence it says thee story is set in 2081.The year was 2081, and everybody was finally equal.
- The protagonist/main character wishes to restore people to a conventional life.
- The government says everything is great when all of the people are the same. All this equality was due to the 211th, 212th, and 213th Amendments to the Constitution
