Storyboard-Text

  • Tell The Wolves I'm Home by Carol Rifka Brunt
  • Theme
  • Theme Development #1
  • "He's here" (4.4)
  • Progress Report 3: Themeby Brenna Collery
  • Theme Development #2
  • "Hey, drokus" (6.28)
  • The major theme of this story is that hate tears people apart. The theme develops throughout the story when Finna and Toby are hated by their families. Theme is developed further when June is hated for being close to them. As the reader, we see how all of the characters seem to have hate for one another, it drives the conflict of the story and ruins the relationships between the characters.
  • Theme Development #3
  • "...I'll worry about all that" (64.29)
  • "Mom and Dad will kill you." (64.28)
  • Early on in the novel, Finn dies. At Finn's funeral, we first meet Toby Toby was Finn's boyfriend. When the mother sees Toby she says "he's here...her voice had a strange combination of anger and panic." Finn's family hated Toby. Their hate for toby just unjust. They hated him because he "killed Finn". The family's hate for Toby drives the plot and develops the theme of hatred in the novel.
  • Solution
  • As the plot continues, the tension between Greta and June worsens. June is spending her time with Toby and Greta was drinking. Greta hit June in the back of the head, but Greta's tormenting of June goes beyond the normal sisterly banter. Greta is jealous of June for being closer to Finn, and now being closer to Toby. Her jealousy causes her to hate June, This develops the theme that hate ruins relationships by showing how Greta's meanness and jealousy towards June ruins their relationship.
  • In this scene, Greta and June are secretly visiting Toby. Toby is nearing death, and the girls are well aware of this. The girls know that their parents still hate Toby, and that they aren't supposed to be visiting him. This shows that the hate the parents had for Toby wasn't only affecting their relationship wit him, but also June and Greta's. This develops plot by showing that hate is ruining the girls' ability to have a relationship with Toby It also shows how hate is separating the family.
  • I don't believe that the plot will be resolved. The Theme that "hate ruins relationships" rings true throughout the story, and I believe it will through the end of the novel. The hate that the parents have for Toby and the relationship between Toby and the girls doesn't seem like it will change. This makes the theme ring ture, hate will ruin relationships. Because of hate, a family is broken apart and two lovers were never able to be happy and themselves.
