Storyboard-Text

  • Odysseus and his men travel to Aeaea the home of Circe a goddess-enchantress. Circe proves herself helpful, she offers Odysseus and his men food and drink. She also advises Odysseus on the dangers he will soon face. Circe tells Odysseus of the SIrens, the Scylla, the Charybdis, and the island of the sun god Helios, Thrinacia.
  • Once Odysseus and his men reached the island of the two SIrens Odysseus cut into a cake of wax and kneaded it until it became warm. The men put the wax in their ears to protect themselves from the Sirens trap. However, Odysseus wanted to hear the Sirens so he ordered his men to bind him to the mast. Hearing the song of the Sirens Odyssues begged to be let off the mast but in response his men tied the knots tighter.
  • After they had passed the Sirens a new threat appeared, the whirlpool monster Charybdis and the six headed monster Scylla. Odysseus knew more of his men would survive Scylla than Charybdis. With this knowledge he sailed the boat towards Scylla. She ate six of Odysseus' strongest comrades.
  • After these hardships the men reached the island of the Sungod Helios. Odysseus told his men the cattle of the island were sacred and not to be hurt. Despite Odysseus' warning his men killed the cattle for sacrifice and for food. Six peaceful days passed on the island after the cattle had been killed. However, on the seventh day, when Odysseus and his men started to sail away, Zeus struck their ship.
  • Odysseus was the sole survivor of the shipwreck. He held on to the ship as long as he could. When the ship gave way Odysseus held onto the keel and mast which he had tied together with ox-hide. He drifted aimlessly in the sea going where the winds took him.
  • The wind had lead Odysseus back to Charybdis and Scylla. Odysseus clung to a tall fig tree just barely escaping death by Charybdis. Odysseus waited for the whirlpool monster to stop before plunging back into the water. Scylla didn't notice Odysseus so he safely swam away.
