- La Bamba by: Gary Soto
- he was walking to school and on his way he was thinking about the talent show tomorrow. he is singing Ritchie Valen's La Bamba and at the school talent show tomorrow . They are trying to rehears for the talent show but the record player got jammed.
- the talent show is about t to start and the parents and the kids start coming in the cafeteria. the lights dimmed and Mr. Roybal parted the stage curtains and started talking. The gray tooth was being chased around by the tooth brush and then it slipped and almost rolled off the stage but Mr. Roybal cought her just in time.
- Manuel had to stop his dance because Mr. Roybal ripped the needle across the record. Manuel thought that his was worse than his homemade flash light but he was happy that no one laughed and they just snickered. Manuel was trying to hold back the tears because Benny was doing so good with his trumpet.
- Gary Soto was born to Mexican-American parents Manuel and Angie Soto. Gary's dad died in 1957 when Gary was 5. Gary dident have much time or any encouragement in his studies/.
