- ''But mom, I can't find the bucket.
- But mom, I can't find the broom.
- Then get the bucket and fetch water from the river.
- Pinang can you cook some food for me? I’m too sick to cook it myself.
- I can’t cook and I can’t find the ladle.
- Do you really expect me to cook for you? It’s so hard to do.
- A long time ago, there was a girl named Pinang who lived with her mother Aling Rosa in the province. The mother works hard while Pinang is lazy. She just wants to play every time.
- Here I am, sick,and I cannot even count in you!
- ’Oh, Pinang you are a very lazy child! You didnot even bother to cook or do the things I asked you to! What am I going to dowith you?
- I wish you would grow a thousand eyes all over your head! Then you can find what you’re looking for. Maybe then you won’t have anymore excuses.
- When Aling Rosa asked her to help, Pinang would always make excuses.
- ’Hmm… Where did that lazy child go? She’sprobably went to her friend’s house so she won’t have to do any more errandsfor me.’’
- One day Pinang’s mother, Aling Rosa, got sick and asked Pinang to cook some food for her because she can’t cook in her condition.
- ’What is this strange yellow plant doing in my backyard? It’s a plant that has a thousand eyes… wait. Did my daughter, Pinang ,turn into this plant?!
- ’I’m sorry Pinang! I’m sorry for saying those words that day! I’m really sorry Pinang. I’m going to take care of this plant for you. I love you Pinang!’
- Her mother, Aling Rosa, got disappointed and mad at Pinang. She scolded her because of being lazy.
- The next day, Aling Rosa could not find Pinang, she looked around the house, but there was no sign of her. She feared that her daughter might never come back. The day after, she went to look for her in the backyard.
- Aling Rosa noticed there was a strange plant growing in their backyard. She realized that what she said before had cursed her daughter, Pinang, to turn into a plant with many eyes. To honor the memory of her beloved daughter, she named the fruit ‘Pinya.’
