- How does character change throughout the novel?
- Juanita becomes a little more responsible and helpful as she tries to help Odilia take care of their younger sisters.Pg. 31, Para. 1 says, "Juanita came back into the room, looking more like herself again. You're a lousy sister! she yelled." This is an example of how in the beginning of the book Juanita was behaving quite childish and irresponsible.Pg. 72, Para. 6 says, "Juanita went in the convenience store to pay for the gas." This is telling us that Juanita has taken this responsibility. And that she is become more responsible while helping take care of herself and younger sisters.
- What challenges does this character face?
- Juanita struggled to get to El Sacrificio. And struggled to convince Odilia to go take them.Pg. 21, Para. 2-3 says, "You're not making any sense. Juanita continued passionately. Don't you get it? we were meant to find him, so we could go see our abuelita in Mexico again. It was fate that brought him to us." This is Juanita trying to convince Odilia that they should deliver the man to his family.Pg. 30, Para. 2 says, "This isn't fair! Juanita screamed, her arms rigid and her face reddened with rage. She was actually crying. Juanita never cried." This is a time where Juanita's plan to go to El Sacrificio, was getting blocked. And she became frustrated because she thought that she wouldn't be able to go through with her plan.
