- The Creoles of Brazil believed they were culturally different than their rulers in Portugal, and they wanted to gain independence without losing their social privileges.

- The Revolution was led by the Creoles in Brazil and Prince Pedro of Portugal.

- Napoleon banished the Portuguese Royal Family to Brazil. They liked it there so much that their son Prince Pedro stayed in Brazil after Napoleon was defeated.
- Outcomes
- On September 7, 1822, Prince Pedro declared Brazil an independent, constitutional monarchy. He also named himself Emperor.
- In December 1823 the Brazilian Constitution was written, but it wasn't fully approved until March 25, 1824
