Jude thinks about her skin tone, and how different it looks from dark to light, in the text Bennett writes, "In the dark, you could never be too black. In the dark, everyone was the same color (Bennett 107)" Jude thinks the dark place is a comfort place, where people look just the same as her, rather in the light she was so different, so dark.

Jude was a thoughtful person, she looked at a person the way they wished to be looked as, in the text Bennett writes, "You should take that thing off," she said. "If it hurts you. You don't have to wear it here. I don't care what you look like" (Bennett 118). Jude was allowing Reese to become himself comfortably by what he had. Even though her statement wasn't as comfortable with him, she still gave him the opening of her accepting who he was
Where have they been/ where are they going?
After Jude graduated high school she got accepted at UCLA, traveling to California to pursue her dreams. In the text Bennett writes, "I still don't know why you wanna go all the way out to California," she said" (Bennett 83) . Desiree, not so happy about Judes transition to California, Jude remains her high hopes for her track career.
