- Ever since Sandayo was born, he exuded an aura that put others in awe. People praised him as being not of this Earth. People likened him to the son of a diwata, to the figure of a strong tree, and to the characteristics of a rare flower. He was even acclaimed to be a datu of all lands. The goddess of the clouds Bae Asog even referred to him as her godson.
- Supernatural Elements
- The hero is capable of unbelievable physical and mental feats that no real human could accomplish. Being partially divine, Sandayo grew up faster than any human could ever hope to achieve. In just a week, he had learned to walk, and in just a month's time, he had ventured out into the world all by himself. Blessed with superhuman strength, filled with boundless bravery, and determined to explore and live up to his name as a Datu, he begins his adventure.
- Omniscient Narrator
- Our child is ugly.
- Mother, I'm a Datu, I must venture out.
- The adventures of Sandayo takes place in various settings. From mountains, to rivers, to the salty seas, to outer space, and even to the scorching sun itself where he dreamt of Bolak Sonday. The narrative follows Sandayo's adventures and misadventures as he travels across these places with the help of his monsala. In the end, they even ascended to the ninth heaven, an eternal abode where all is happiness.
- Exaggerated Writing Style
- The plot and characters are shaped by supernatural and other-worldly elements, such as time travel, space travel, immortality, gods, demons, angels, mythical creatures, and superpowers. Aside from space travel, the Sandayo epic also features gods and godesses of the Philippine mythology such as when the goddess of the clouds Bae Asog intervened and put a stop to the battle of Datu Sandayo and Datu Domondianay that seemed to last for eternity.
- The narrator tells of the thoughts and actions of the characters in the narrative. The narrator, sort of like a god, determines each character's actions and how the events should play out. Such as how the narrator tells of Sandayo's fervent desire to roam, how Datu Salaria keeps repeating how unfortunately ugly his son is to ward off evil, and the insistence of Bae Salaong to make Sandayo stay.
- You are still but a child...
- Usually, the writing style is overly formal or exaggerated, using many decorative literary devices. In one of Sandayo's adventures, he fights against the suitors of Bolak Sonday where the battle raged on for a very long time, where they eventually reached a shimmering sea that dried up for how long the battle took. After such a long fight, Datu Sandayo no longer trod on earth, but stood up on top of a mountain of the piled-up dead.
