- The story begins with the narrator trying to convince us that Poe is not crazy and he is just living a normal life.

- Your neighbors said they heard a big noise can we come

- The narrator starts to tell us that he is still not crazy but he doesn't like the old mans eye so he is going to sneak into his room with a lantern at night and if he sees his eye open he is going to kill the old man.
- Resolution
- The narrator tells us that he is still not crazy but seven nights went by and he never saw his eye open. On the eighth night he went to open the door and his eye was open so he killed him by suffocating him.
- Theme
- Why did I confess
- The narrator still tells us that he is not crazy even tho he just killed someone because he doesn't like his eye. The cops show up saying that the neighbors heard a huge noise like someone fell off of something.
- The narrator says that poe heard the old mans heartbeat so he was going to confess so he didn't have to hear his heartbeat.
- The narrator tells us that poe regrets telling the cops that he murdered the old man because he didn't like his eye
