Her husband buys her a new gown for a hefty sume of 400 francs. Mme. Loisel is still not satisfied as she has no jewellery, so her husband suggests she ask Mme. Foster, her rich friend to lend her some.

CONFLICTMme. Loisel goes to her friend, Mme. Forester, and asks if she can lend her jewellery for the ball. Mme. forester, of course agrees. It is then that Mathilde finds a beautiful diamond necklace which she decides to wear for the ball.

RISING ACTIONMme. Loisel attends the ball along with her husband, and enjoys herself. Her looks and new clothes and jewellery attract many attendees, and Mathilde finally gets a taste of the life she has always wanted.
CLIMAXWhen the Loisels came back from the ball, they are shocked to find out that the necklace Mme. Loisel borrowed was missing.They fervently search for the necklace, however they are unable to find it. Mm. Loisel tells Mathilde not to tell her friend about the missing necklace and instead asks her to tell her that the necklace is broken and thus, they have sent it for repairs.

FALLING ACTIONThe Loisels search to find a similar-looking necklace all over Paris, and finally, find one in a pawn shop. They discover it costs 34,000 francs for the necklace, which they don't have. However, MM. Loisel takes out plenty of loans to buy the necklace which they have to pay off over 10 years.

RESOLUTIONAfter 10 years, Mme. Loisel encounters Mme. Forester with a child.Mme. Loisel, now unrecognizable from the hardships of poverty proudly tells her friend about how she had lost the necklace and how hard they had worked to replace it. However Mme.
