- Hi I am going to tell you about how oil formed in Southwest Asia.
- When the organisms in the water died, most of them became rock.
- This oil became trapped under impermeable rock, but some has risen to the surface
- Under the heat and pressure of the earth, some of the dead organisms became oil.
- Millions of years ago, the Arabian Peninsula was a ocean.
- Wow, so thats how oil got into southwestern Asia.
- So, is their others ways oil can be formed?
- So, how did it take so long to find the oil?
- It took a very long because the oil is very deep in the ground, requires extensive equipment, and is under many layers of rock such as cap rock, and more impermeable rock types.
- Yes, oil can also be formed by shifts in tectonic plates. When they shift it can create pockets for oil to form.
- I have a few more questions. So how did the oil get under the rock?

- That is such a cool fact. So, what is impermeable rock?
- It is rock that liquid cant pass through. Impermeable rock keeps oil deep underground and is a type of cap rock
- The oil seeped through the rock by going through pores, or tiny holes. It is like how a sponge absorbs water.
