- On their fourth day out, the ship sank. Pi woke up at 4:30 in the morning to a loud noise, Ravi was still sleeping but Pi tried to wake him up so they could see what was going on. Pi saw a lifeboat on the bridge castle and that is when he started to worry. Until he saw the water caving into the ship, and that is when he realized the ship was sinking.
- "I had gone down just one level when I saw water. Lots of water." (103)

- The Ship has sunk. Quickly get on the lifeboat, and choose an animal to come with you!

- After the ship had sunk, Pi along with a hyena, tiger, orangutan, and zebra had been thrown overboard onto a lifeboat to survive.
- "I was alone and orphaned, in the middle of the Pacific, hanging on to an oar, an adult tiger in front of me, sharks beneath me, a storm raging about me." (107)
- Train/Tame Richard Parker
- You needs to find a way to survive on the lifeboat. What should you do?
- Find more food and water
- Pi decided it would be a good idea to train Richard Parker. So, Pi caught a turtle so he could use its shell as his shield to protect himself from Richard Parker. Pi then began to start training the tiger. He trained the tiger so he could show him that he was in charge, and he is the boss.
- "In my case, to protect myself from Richard Parker while I trained him, I made a shield with a turtle shell. "(205)

- Pi then came across a algae island! Should he stop so he can get some fresh water and food?
- No
- When Pi and Richard Parker found this algae island, they hadn't eaten in so long, they were so weak and unhealthy. Therefore, when they found this island full of unlimited algae that they could eat all day long, it gave them a sense of hope they were going to survive. The island was also filled with thousands of meerkats that Richard Parker liked to eat and chase after. There were fresh water ponds where Pi could drink from.
- "Green is a lovely colour. It is the colour of Islam. It is my favorite colour." (257)

- Soon, It was time for Pi and Richard Parker to continue their journey to find Mexico. Choose three things they will take with them from the island.

- "When we reached land, Mexico to be exact, I was so weak I barely had the strength to be happy about it." (284)

- Should Pi say goodbye to Richard Parker?
- No
- As soon as Richard Parker and Pi got to land, Richard Parker ran! Pi didn't even get a chance to say goodbye to the animal he spent 227 days at sea with. That made Pi realize how much he loved Richard Parker, and the fact that Richard Parker was the reason he is alive today. Richard Parker is the reason he kept pushing through to the end. Without Richard Parker he wouldn't have survived, and he didn't even get to say goodbye to him.
- "We have survived. Can you believe it? I owe you more gratitude than I can express. I couldn't have done it without you. I would like to say it formally: Richard Parker, thank you. Thank you for saving my life. And now go where you must. "(286)
