  • DUNCAN. Great happiness! Go pronounce his present death, And with his former title greet Macbeth. What he hath lost, noble Macbeth hath won.
  • FIRST WITCH. All hail, Macbeth, hail to thee, Thane of Glamis! SECOND WITCH. All hail, Macbeth, hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor! THIRD WITCH. All hail, Macbeth that shalt be King hereafter!
  • ROSS. The King hath happily received news of thy Success he bade me, from him’, Call thee Thane of Cawdor. MACBETH. Glamis, and Thane of Cawdor! The greatest is behind.
  • MESSENGER. Our Thane is coming. One of my fellows had the speed of him, LADY MACBETH. Give him tending; He brings great news.
  • LADY MACBETH. The raven croaks the fatal entrance Of Duncan under my battlements. My keen knife see not the wound it makes Nor heaven peep through the blanket of the dark.

  • MACBETH. I bear a charmed life, which must not yield To one of woman born. MACDUFF. Tell thee, Macduff was from his mother's Womb untimely ripp'd.
  • MACBETH. I'll not fight with thee. MACDUFF. Then yield thee, coward, And live to be the show and gaze o' the time.
  • MACBETH. I will not yield, Though Birnam Wood be come to Dunsinane, And thou opposed, being of no woman born, Yet I will try the last.
  • MACDUFF. Hail, King, for so thou art. Behold where stands Th’usurper's cursed head. The time is free. ALL. Hail, King of Scotland!
