The British Parliament passed the Tea Act in 1773 to basically make it so that the tea could be shipped directly to America and taxed in India to stop it from being shipped to Britain and distributed to the colonies from there. The colonists didn't support this act because they felt as if it just validated the Townshend Tax on tea.
