- The narrator is introduced. He wants to prove that he is not crazy even though he had killed the old man over his vulture eye .
- Climax
- The narrator tried to be as friendly as he could to to the old man who has the disturbing eye, but he had to kill the man because whenever he looked at his eye, the narrator had a cold feeling.
- Falling Action
- Every night for seven days at about 12am, the narrator came to the old man's room, had a light covered with a cloth, he lifted the cloth, just little to see the old man's vulture's eye.
- Resolution
- “Yes! Yes, I killed him."
- The old man gave a loud cry of fear as the narrator fell upon him and held the bedcovers tightly over his head. Still his heart was beating; but the narrator felt that success was near. For many minutes that heart continued to beat; but at last the beating stopped. The old man was dead. He cut of the man's head, the arms then the legs. He put the parts down three boards of the floor.
- At 4am three police officers came because the neighbors had heard the old man’s cry and had called the police. They had to search the house. The cry, I said, was my own, in a dream. The old man, I said, had gone to visit a friend in the country.
- The story ends as the narrator confesses that he killed the old man and where he put him, because he could hear ticking noises getting louder and louder.
