When Felix and Zelda decide to jump out of the moving train car, they have hope that they will not be shot and will be able to escape into the woods.

When Felix flees from the orphanage, he has the ultimate hope that he will find his parents. As he learns the truth about what is happening, his hope begins to deminish.
