  • Babur founds the Mughal Empire
  • Attack!
  • Akbar's tolerance
  • Anyone can practice any religion they want.
  • I have abolished the Jizya.
  • Akbar's military strength
  • Fire the cannons. We must break through these castle walls.
  • 11 year old Babur led an army of 12,000 troops and defeated 2 armies which gave him lots of territory for the Mughal Empire. This shows us that the Mughals were great conquerors and they had lots of military strength.
  • Conflict with the Sikhs
  • Guru Arjun, you are under arrest.
  • Akbar promoted religious tolerance by marrying Hindu princesses, revoking the jizya, appointing a Spanish Jesuit to teach his son, and making a central government of people from many religious backgrounds. Because of religious tolerance, the Mughal Empire thrived, India’s culture expanded and the economy was well maintained because of the strong, diverse government.
  • The Taj Mahal
  • Wow! This looks great! Good work.
  • Akbar’s military had lots of artillery which allowed them to conquer more land and recover the territory that Humayun lost. This shows that Akbar was one of the greatest conquerors and rulers of the Mughal Empire.
  • Aurangzeb's intolerance
  • I have reinstated the Jizya.
  • Everyone must follow Islamic laws!
  • When Khusrau rebelled against Jahangir and went to the Sikhs for protection, Mughal rulers captured Guru Arjun and tortured him. This resulted in a religious conflict between the Sikhs and the Mughals and changed the Sikh’s way of life.
  • Shah Jahan ordered the Taj Mahal to be built in honor of his wife Mumtaz Mahal and today the Taj Mahal is a wonder of the world. This shows that Shah Jahan cared a lot about his wife and architecture, but he wasn’t a good leader since he neglected and taxed the people during the famine to build the Taj Mahal.
  • I hope this was worth all the money.
  • Aurangzeb stopped religious tolerance and reinstated the jizya. Because of intolerance, the empire slowly declined and people rebelled and lost trust in rulers.
  • This is so unfair. How could he do this?
