The government tried helping by creating war housing near military bases and industrial plants to help during this time. There were little towns called Hooversvilles that helped house unemployed families that people could stay.
  • The stock market crashes insuing what is called Black Tuesday almost $16 billion total losses. This crash was caused by an overproduction in many industries. This led to an oversupply of steel, iron, and durable goods. When these products weren't in high demand anymore manufacturers sold them at a loss which caused share prices to begin to drop.
  • Lastly, another tragedy that happened during the Great Depression, was the closing of banks. When many got wind of this news they all ran to take their money out so they didn't lose it and this was called a bank run or bank panic. Many were taking out all of their money, but weren't able to pay it back therefore banks had to get loans that ended up failing.
