- Horace Mann only got to go to school 10 weeks a year in a one room school house. When he did go there was kids to a room.
- I'm Horace Mann and I'm fighting for American public schools
- Kids that didn't go to public school enough or at all would usually steal, destroy property, and set fires, but Horace would work on his families farm.
- Instead of going to school I have work on my families farm
- Many schools, mostly highschools and colleges wouldn't let african americans andgirls in their school. These were also usually the schools that would pay theirteachers very low.

- Even when some schools let African Americans in they were still discriminated.Whites were scared and they wouldn't let their kids go to school. Most white parents werevery mad.
- Horace became the states supervisor of education. He began giving speeches about how public schools were needed everywhere, taxes should be raised so teachers can be paid better, and everyone should be allowed in school. The peooplewho didn't like him would throw stones at him during his speeches.
