- On June 17th, 1775 the British set fire to Charleston with their cannons. Which lead to the Battle of Bunker Hill. Americans soon learned that the British were planning on sending troops from Boston to claim the hills surrounding their city. Under the forces of General Howe the British were lead up to Bunker Hill where the Americans set loose their fire which forced British to retreat. They continued this method a second time and had the same result. They were not giving up yet. For one last battle there was a new method used, hand to hand combat. With the Americans out numbered, and without any ammo, they were forced to retreat. It left the British with 1026 casualties and 226 killed. It was also not all bad for the Americans because they fought well against British best troops and gained confidence . Cause and EffectCause the British were trying to keep control of the city and it's value . The effect was Americans gained confident because the more casualties against the British then them but the effect for the British was the loss of soldiers. The British also had another effect winning the hill also came out of the battle.
