  • One of Othello's flaws that brings about his downfall is jealousy. Throughout the play Iago manipulates Othello into believing that Desdemona and Cassio are having an affair. However, it wasn't until act 3 scene 3, when Iago told Othello that he overheard Cassio talking about Desdemona in his sleep and that he saw Cassio with Desdemona's handkerchief, did Othello's jealousy take over.(3, 3, 467-501)

  • Othello's fortune suddenly changes in the play after Iago manipulates him to believing that something is going on between Desdemona and Cassio. Before this moment in the play, Othello was living a happy life. After Iago embedded the idea of betrayal into Othello's head, he became angry and violent towards not only his colleagues, but also Desdemona. (Othello's fortunes drastically changed in Act 3 , Scene 3)
  • Othello doesn't realize the truth until act 5, scene 2. In this scene Emilia confesses to giving Iago Desdemona's handkerchief. This is a pivotal moment because this was the moment when Othello knew that Iago was lying and that he had made the biggest mistake of his life. (5, 2, 267-280)
  • Othello's fate at the end of the play was death. Othello's death at the ned of the play signifies his punishment for the crimes that he committed. (5, 2, 397-417)
