- During Erikson's first psychosocial development stage, infants are very dependent on others. It is important for an infant to develop trust in their caregiver. For example, Lily is crying and her mother is there to show her comfort and affection, allowing Lily to establish trust in her mother.
- During Erikson's second psychosocial development stage, toddlers will start to develop self control and will begin to be more vocal about their own likings and skills. For example, Lily tells her mom that she likes pizza and wants it for lunch. Her mom agrees with her.
- During Erikson's third psychosocial stage, children (pre-schoolers) begin to assert themselves more often through interaction and play with others. For example, Lily is asserting herself by suggesting to play tag with her friends and them also wanting to play with her.
