  • Causes of the War
  • Trouble of Native American
  • Land Battles
  • Some causes of the war were because America was trading to the French and the British at the same time, while those two were at war. Both got angry by this, but more so the British. This led to the British attacking Americans ships, and many disagreements. Eventually, America declared a war on Greta Britain.
  • Sea Battles
  • Trouble started when settlers started to move into the Ohio and Mississippi valleys, pushing the Indians off their lands. Two of the Shawnee Indians tried fighting back and united Indians along the Mississippi River. On November 7, 1811, a militia force fought against Shawnee warriors and later discovered that the Indians were armed with British guns.
  • The Battle of New Orleans
  • In August of 1814, a British army invaded Washington D.C. They burned many buildings, which included the Capitol and the White house. On September 13, 1814, bombarded Fort McHenry. This went on all night.
  • Results of the War
  • In 1809, James Madison offered France and Great Britain a deal to stop trading with their enemy, then they needed to stop attacking American ships. Madison cut off all trade with Great Britain, who continued to attack Americans ships. He wanted to leave George Washington's policy to isolate and going to war with Great Britain.
  • On January 8, 1815, British troops marched into battle and were attacked with deadly fire. Around 2,000 British soldiers were killed and only around 70 Americans. It was the greatest U.S. victory of the war of 1812, but it was not necessary. Two weeks before this, America and British diplomats met and signed a treaty, ending the war.
  • In the end, nobody really won the war and the issues eventually faded. However, the war weakened Indian resistance in the Northwest Territory. The national pride in the United Stated increased, and Americans felt that they had truly become their own nation and powerful, after standing up to Greta Britain. The war left Federalists were damaged and never recovered.
