- Andy and Mel where dancing together and then he took her into the woods and hurt her, "There is a boulder on me. I open my mouth to breathe, to scream, and his hand covers it" (Anderson 135)

- Mel is at the mall when she see's a girl from her art class, "I turn Ivy is sitting on the edge of the fountain, a giant sketch-book balanced on her knees. She nods toward the line of whiners and the face painters furiously coloring stripes, spots, and whiskers" (Anderson 145)
- I'm not helping you.
- Mel tells about things that she would wish when she was little, " When I was a little kid, I used to pretend I was a princess who had been adopted when my kingdom way overrun by bad guys. Any day my real parents Mr. King and Mrs. Queen, would send the royal limo to pick me up."
- "NOOOOO NO WAY HE WOULD NEVEER DO THAT!!!"
- "The Suffragettes fought for the right to speak. They were attacked, arrested, and thrown in jail for daring to do what they wanted. Like they were, I am willing to stand up for what I believe. No one should be forced to give speeches. I choose to stay silent" (Anderson 156)

- " 'Liar!' She stumbles out of her chair and grabs her books off the table. 'I can't believe you. You're just jealous. You're a twisted little freak and you're jealous that I'm popular and I'm going to the prom and so you lie to me like this. And you sent me that note didn't you? You are so sick' "(Anderson184)
