Pyramus and Thisbe loved each other a lot, but their parents didn't want them to be together due to ongoing family rivalry, they were neighbours in connected houses so talked through a crack in the wall. One day, the wanted to wed secretly so they ran away outside the city and to meet under a mulberry tree in the tomb of a great king, Ninus.

Thisbe arrived first to the mulberry tree and saw a lioness whose hands were bloody from a recent kill. When Thisbe saw this, she got scared and ran into a cave in the tomb, but she dropped her veil on the ground.
