On the 14th of September 1975, 50 marchers lead by Dame Whina Cooper leave Te Hapua to start their 1000km walk to Parliament located in Wellington
From the 14th of September 1975, throughout to the 13th of October 1975, the marchers Stopped by at multiple maraes where they would find accommodation, food, as well as gathering signatures for their petition which they would later present to parliament.

On the 23rd of September 1975, the marchers crossed Auckland Harbour bridge. This gained the marchers a lot of media attention
The Waitangi Tribunal Act was introduced to parliament by Maori politician; Matiu Rata and put into action on the 10th of October 1975.
On the 13th of October 1975, the marchers began the final 7km stretch on Porirua Motorway to parliament.
On the 13th of October 1975, Whinia Cooper and 5000 marchers finished their 1100km march to Wellington and presented the petition signed by 60,000 people to Prime Minister; Bill Rowling.
