- Ted is going through a very stressful time right now. He currently has his first varsity game and has big shoes to fill. His older brother led the team in states for all 4 of his high school years and expectations for him are high. This contributes to his daily stress and today he has an even higher level of stress due to his game.
- Although Ted is experiencing all this stress, he has teammates who are willing to be there for him. This could be referred to as the "tend and befriend" theory which builds on the observation that human beings affiliate in response to stress. This can be attributed to our ancestors need to survive where they gathered in times of stress or dangerous situations. Here, Ted's teammate is giving him aid and comfort that he and the team will perform at their game, and Ted is reassuring his teammate the same thing
