- A former girlfriend of Michael Milton notices his excursions with Helen and she puts a note on the door of the Garp household for Garp to read.
- What is this about?
- Garp is furious after reading the note and forces Helen to tell Michael that they can't meet with each other anymore. Meanwhile, Garp takes his children to the movies to take his mind off of Helen.
- When Garp calls home and doesn't receive an answer, he immediately leaves the movie with his children and rushes home in his car. While Helen and Michael spend their final moments together in Michael's car, Garp comes flying down the road by their house and accidentally crashes into Michael's car.
- As a result of this accident, Garp brakes his jaw, Helen injures her neck, Duncan loses an eye, and Walt dies upon impact.
- The Garp family stays at Jenny's estate, Dog's Head Harbor, to recover from the accident and to mourn the death of Walt. It takes a long time for Garp and Helen to begin talking again and they mostly recover from their injuries separately.
- One night, Jenny visits Garp in his room for the first time in months and they make amends about what had happened. Jenny also expresses her desire to have another child and Garp agrees with her.
