- Amir wins the kite competition after flying a blue kite. Out of pure joy, Amir and Hassan hug. After separating, the loyal Hassan vows to find the winning blue kite for Amir and bring it back to him.
- Hassan! Come back with it!

- Amir, worried that Hassan is taking too long, looks for him. He ran into an old merchant, who had seen Hassan. The merchant said that Hassan had the blue kite and was getting chased by boys who looked like Amir.
- What is a boy like you doing here at this time of day looking for a Hazara?
- Which way did he go?
- Amir finally sees Hassan.
- A loyal Hazara. Loyal as a dog.
