- A laptop? Don't be so selfish Wade, this could buy us some "extra" food vouchers
- The year is 2041, and the world is suffering. The energy crisis at an all time high, climate changes effects insurmountable, and gruesome wars leaving it's bloody footprints everywhere. Sounds brutal right? Try living it. Welcome to the stacks, residence of yours truly .Let me go ahead and answer the question that's probably settled in your mind right now. How could you possibly push through with everything going on around you? Well allow me to be the the first to introduce you to the one thing people here use to keep themselves going.
- James Halliday's oasis contest. James Halliday, inventor of the oasis, and mega billionaire. Or at least he was.... after his death Halliday left his fortune up for the grabs, to anyone who was dedicated enough to crack the code of his Easter egg hunt. Quite literally, whoever found this egg wins his whopping 240 billion dollars. Yeah 240 billion... that's alright take a second, pick your jaw up off the floor, and lets move on. In a short video from his will, Halliday explained the rules for his quest, and how there will be 3 clues, 3 keys, and a long journey in finding this egg. Which leaves you right about right now, here with me, on the laundry room floor.
- After 5 years of intense searching, a clue for the first key to unlocking has been discovered. All by a teenage boy, what will he do next?
- I usually hang out in the laundry room of our trailer, where I get the most privacy staying with my aunt. Today though, she walked in and caught me on my laptop, making a big deal of it. Little does she know I have more, learning to find and program them has been the only thing I could do to keep food on the table. My aunt's been no help, the only reason she took me in was to make more money to put in her pocket. She rarely acknowledged e unless it was a situation like this.
- I GOT IT!
- When I wasn't hiding out at home, I would attend high school in the oasis, which was much better than in person. I was never good with people, and to be in school for real would only lead to me being bullied. When I'm in the oasis I'm not Wade Watts, below average kid from the stacks. I'm Parzival, clue seeker of the Oasis. I also catch up with things happening elsewhere in the many worlds of oasis, particularly with a blog run by Art3mis, another participant in Halliday's contest. I wish I could meet her in person
- After school, I head over to my virtual friends Aech's virtual chat hangout in a basement. While in deep conversation about the best 80's movies, another player descended down the steps. He comes up to me and starts throwing insults, which was surprising do to his lack of knowledge on anything to do with Halliday or his contest. After going back and forth for a while, I start to point out his lack of knowledge enough to embarrass him, and make him leave.
- After dedicating most of my time to investing myself in Halliday's favorite things, it seems to be paying off. After going back into Halliday's favorite books, I realized that I was able to get a clue within the Almanac. After un coding it, I realize that the potential place for the bronze key may be in the Tomb oh Horrors. Now I just have to figure out how to get there.
