- Marine plastic refers to plastic waste that ends up drifting in the ocean after being washed up in the sea from our daily lives and economic activities, or thrown directly into the sea or rivers. Because plastic products are durable and long-lasting, once they reach the sea, they hardly decompose, and have become a problem as they adversely affect marine ecosystems and our lives
- A specific issue is the impact on marine life. Seabirds, fish, and marine mammals mistake plastic bags for food and eat them. Because plastic is not digested in the body, it damages internal organs, causing inflammatory reactions, eating disorders, suffocation, and intestinal obstruction, leading to death. There seems to be no end to the number of cases. We also have bad experiences. These include impacts on the marine environment including ecosystems, obstacles to navigation, impacts on tourism and fisheries, and impacts on coastal living environments
