- Robert Hooke while looking through a microscope and observing a cork found box-shaped structures. This reminded him of jail cells, or room's monasteries slept in so he called them cells.

- All of these animals are made from cells!
- Robert Brown discovered the nucleus. Robert Brown also contributed to the knowledge of plant morphology, embryology, and biogeography.

- This all leads to the cell theory. The cell theory states that all organisms are composed of one or more cells. It then states that cells are the basic units of structure and function and that cells come from pre-existing cells.
