  • The British, soon imposed a blockade on French ports and began seizing American ships. Between 4,000 and 10,000 sailors were forcibly taken into the British Navy in this manner. 
  • The British Impressment is when the British were taking men into a military or naval force by compulsion, with or without notice.
  • The Natives got involved in the conflict to ensure that the British will support them with their battle against the United States.
  • The British, with about 600 regulars and 1,000 Indian allies under the leadership of Tecumseh, the Shawnee intertribal leader, were greatly outnumbered and quickly defeated. Many British troops were captured and Tecumseh was killed, destroying his Indian alliance and breaking the Indian power in the Ohio and Indiana territories. After this battle, most of the tribes abandoned their association with the British.
  • British troops set fire to much of the city, in retaliation for the Americans' burning of the Canadian capital at York on April 27, 1813. The British torched major rooms in the Capitol, which housed the Library of Congress as well as the House, Senate, and Supreme Court. Despite almost everything being, burned a few things were saved, one of those things was a portrait of George Washington which was saved by Dolley Madison. (April 27, 1814)
  • The British planned to invade New Orleans to gain dominion over the Mississippi River and hold the trade of the entire South under its thumb. Andrew Jackson reached New Orleans on December 1st, 1814 and began the task of assembling an army which eventually consisted of Free Men of Color, Choctaw Indians, smuggler Jean Lafitte and his privateers, sailors, marines, and United States troops. Andrew Jackson's hastily assembled army won the battle against a battle-hardened and numerically superior British force.
