Austin’s Imprisonment 1834
We should arrest him
Oooooooooooooo
Conventions of 1832 and 1833 was when the Texans delegates meet up and tried to solve their problems. Then Texans made a list of grievances and asked Stephen F. Austin was nominated to lead the Convention. So Stephen F. Austin has to go to Mexico City and talk to the president, Santa Anna. One of the grievances was to make Texas a separate state within Mexico. This will lead to conflict between the Texans and the Mexican government because the Mexican government isn’t going to like the idea of the grievances the Texans made.
The Texans were divided; the War Party and the Peace Party. The Peace Party wanted to make peace with the Mexican government and stay with Mexico. The War Party wanted to break away from the Mexican government and become independent. This will cause conflict between the Texans and the Mexican government because first, the Texans are divided on what they should do and the Mexican government is already mad at the Texans because they think the Texans want to become independent.
Austin goes to Mexico to talk to the president, but he has to wait awhile before he can show the letter to the Mexican government. Austin writes back to the Texans settlements say they can set up their own government. Mexican officials read this letter and think Austin’s commenting treason. Austin gets arrested. This will cause conflict between the Mexican government and the Texans because once Austin got out of prison he went from being peaceful to ready for war. He was ready for war against the Mexican government and so were the Texans.
