- The Lights went out at the party as Jude and Reese were going to the bathroom, "Wait. Can we just talk?" "We don't have to talk," she said. "I know you don't like me. Not like that . And it's okay. We just don't have to talk about it" (Bennet 121).
- Jude and Reese's relationship was rocky because Reese was insecure and didn't want to reveal all of himself. While they were in the dark they were able to tell each other how they feel.
- After Jude explained what her upbring was like to Kennedy, she started to think about their dynamic, "She resented when Kennedy demanded lemon tea. She felt defensive when Barry called her a spoiled brat even though she was one, of course she was" (Bennet 240).
- Due to Kennedy getting whatever she wants as a child whenever she wants. She seems to have an issue with waiting for things or people in the real world. She doesn't really care about what anybody else is doing she mostly cares about getting what she wants out of them.
- The Neighbors were having their routine community meeting and discussing the Black family moving in soon, "Whatever the reason, the room quieted when Stella Sanders climbed to her feet. "You must stop them, Percy," she said. "If you don't, there'll be more and then what? Enough is enough!" (Bennet 146).
- Stella's reaction to Black family moving into the neighborhood is proof of how far she'll go to uphold her lie. She'll even commit racism towards her own people.
