  • DAV NEWS 42
  • Hello kid, I'm Lavanya from DAV News 42. What's your name and how long have you been working in the mines ? Shouldn't you be going to school at this age ?
  • My name is Piyush. I'm 11 years old. I've have been working in the mines for three years...I'd love to go to school but if I don't work how would my family and I fill our stomachs ?
  • For how many hours do you have to work here ? Can you tell me about the difficulties you face while mining?
  • Poverty pushes people to a crisis where regardless of age ,they have to toil in hazardous environment and are deprived of education & enjoying their basic rights as others.
  • We work regularly for long hours. It will be dark inside. I always work there with a fear of debris falling on me because I've seen many kids getting injured .Often I get some sort of skin infections, suffocation and injuries.
  • This is where we reside. There are six members in my family and we struggle this hard for one time meal. My little brother is 9 months old and we feel helpless to feed him the required. During monsoons we starve due to unemployment.
  • Mining which is a primary activity is undertaken only during the dry season. Hence, seasonal unemployment is predominant in the mining industry. This leads to malnourishment and paves way for many diseases.
  • My dad fractured his leg & was injured severely in the head as a big chunk of rock fell on him while working. He's unable to walk and we could not afford for his treatments due to our inability
  • Here, illiteracy stands as a cause for lack of awareness of government schemes for the underprivileged.
  • The hidden truth is that children are the hidden cost of cosmetics. Cruelty free not only means free from harsh chemicals or cruelty against animals, but also from child labour as well. At the end of the day the lives of these children are glitter less and uncertain. Until I meet you guys in another episode , this is Lavanya from DAV News 42 signing off. Thank you !
