  • Macrophage
  • A pathogen has entered the body. Shortly after the fact Macrophage comes to the rescue.
  • Helper T cell
  • Antigen
  •
  • B cells
  • Plasma B cells
  • Now the macrophage will eat the pathogen by using the process of endocytosis or phagocytosis. It will break down the pathogen and help display it's antigens. This display will help to activate other immune cells.

  • The macrophage antigens that are displayed interact with helper T cells. The helper T cells stimulate and activate killer T cells and B cells.
  • Memory B cells
  •
  • I have to remember this type of antigen for the future!
  • After helper T cells and B cells come and help destroy the pathogen (this is called humoral immunity and happens inside blood or body fluids).Firstly, the B cells get activated and transfrom into plasma cells and memory B cells.
  • Memory B cells
  • Secondly, plasma b cell creates antibodies that then stick to the antigens on the pathogen. This tags the pathogen for destruction by the macrophages.
  • Lastly, the memory cells remember the antigen so that the immune system can fight off the pathogens faster next time it is encountered.
