  • In 1848, a place called Sacramento Valley had golden nuggets found at Marshals and Sutter's mill .
  • Hey bruh, come take a look at this !
  • Many gold miners traveled by sea or over land to San Francisco and the surrounding area to mine the gold. By the end of 1849, 100,000 people came to look for gold.
  • Gimme all your Gold !
  • A total of $2 billion worth of precious metal was extracted from the area during the Gold Rush. Most of the people had to hide the fact that they found gold because they could be seriously injured by other greedy people who wanted the gold.
  • Though Marshall and Sutter tried to keep news of the discovery to themselves, word got out, and one newspaper was reporting that large bits of gold were being found at Sutter’s Mill.

  • Even though most people didn't believe it, Sam Brannan started displaying a vial of gold obtained from Sutter’s Creek.

  • By June, three-quarters of the male population of San Francisco had left town for the gold mines, and the number of miners in the area reached 4,000 by August.
