- Charlie is in the back row of a theater when Rocky Horror is being presented he thinks “And I was sorry about how I messed everything up.”(147) and “It was just so nice to see all my friends.”(147) In the time that Charlie was away from his newfound friends his life seemed to be considerably worse for him. He needs his friends to live his life the way he wants to live it. Seeing them all again reminded him of how he had once been participating more with them and he's sorry about messing that up.
- The main conflict of the story is Charlie's journey through his freshman year and all of the events that come with that. This inherently relates to the theme since throughout Charlie's freshman year he starts to be a more active member of his life by participating in things with his friends.
- At the beginning of the novel Charlie is all alone at school with no one to talk to. He meets all of his new friends at a football game which leads to him living a more active and fulfilling life.
